The slow burn in this book was pretty impressive. The non-romantic parts of the plot didn’t grab me as much, but that might be because I don’t care about football. I thought All Rhodes Lead Here was more interesting overall. Still, these characters had a lot of past baggage to work through, which added some good depth.

There were a few things that felt unfinished, though.

SPOILERS

One thing that left me wondering was Aiden’s feelings for Vanessa. I’m not really sure when he started to like her. Was it back when she worked for him, before she quit, or did he figure it out after she left? It feels a bit unclear. I really wanted to know how and when he fell for her.

I really wanted a scene where Vanessa paid off her student loans. That was the whole reason she agreed to the fake marriage with Aiden, and it was such a big deal for her. It’s implied that he paid them off, but I wanted to see how it actually happened. A moment where Vanessa jumps up and down so excited and Aiden could have found it endearing.

Also, they never bought a house. I was looking forward to them house shopping and decorating together. I get that it might have been tricky with Zach still living with them and Aiden switching teams, but that was another big reason for the marriage, and it felt like it got dropped.
